Australia has a strong tradition in classic motoring, with over 700 car clubs nationwide and over 300 alone in Victoria. Club events are a popular on the classic motoring calendar, often attracting in excess of 5,000 enthusiasts and 1,000 cars to one-day events, including drive days and concours d’elegance displays. Victoria itself has a long history in the motoring industry, not only as the spiritual home of Holden, but as the long-time host of the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix and the Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motorsport. Although motoring clubs regularly hold their own events, until now there has not been an event which unites all clubs and makers in one true Australian Concours d’Elegance.
In October 2010, Exhibitions & Trade Fairs will hold Australia’s first International Concours d’Elegance, bringing together the most beautiful cars in the world, from both Australia and abroad, over three days at the Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton Gardens. This event, modelled on the iconic Pebble Beach event, will be encompassed under the umbrella festival name, Motorclassica which will comprise of several events: the Australian International Concours d’Elegance, the Classic Motor Show, Tour Classica, Tour Australis, Picnic with the Classics and various other events yet to be announced.
For collectors, motoring enthusiasts or anyone who appreciates the style, glamour and beauty of the golden days of motoring, Motorclassica crosses the great divide and appeals to young and old, with a little something for everyone.
